Kamala Devi Harris made history by becoming the first female, first Black, and first Indian-origin vice president-elect in U.S. history on Saturday when the Associated Press called the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election in favor of former vice president (VP) Joe Biden. Biden will be the oldest president to take office. The 2020 election also made history, breaking the 60% voter turnout barrier in the U.S. for the first time in recent decades.
Harris delivered her victory speech, along with Biden, in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden's home state. She said, "While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities. Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourselves in a way that others may not, simply because they've never seen it before."
