On October 5, 2021, Dev Sunar drove a Punjab-registered truck into Vinod Bharara in Panipat, Haryana. Bharara’s legs were fractured, but he was lucky to survive. He wouldn’t be so lucky the next time: just months later, on December 15, Sunar shot and killed Bharara at his home. 

Police thought it was an open-and-shut case: Sunar wanted Bharara to drop charges after the accident, Bharara declined, and Sunar sought revenge. Three years later, a reopened investigation tells a more complicated story of adultery and greed. But that’s not what the internet is talking about.
